Another
Room Book Arts Bookstore
features artists' books and fine press
books produced by book artists nation-wide and includes a selection
from Europe and Mexico. Three pieces found in Another Room are
pictured here: an accordion book by Macy Chadwick, several from
a series of sculptural books by Peter Madden, and a letterpress
and woodblock-printed accordion book by Patricia Wakida and
Garret Izumi (below).
As one of the few book arts
bookstores in the United States, Another Room allows customers
to hold, examine, and buy works usually seen in special collection
libraries, galleries, or reproduced in books and catalogs or
online.
The work
at Another Room ranges from the traditional to the avant-garde,
with prices from 99 cents to several thousand dollars. There
are letterpress cards, bookmarks, poetry broadsides, blank books,
book arts journals, and even letterpress coasters.

Sitting Room was curated by Tom Sowden and Lucy May Schofield. Sitting
Room is a living-room-like setting of comfortable furniture where the
public can sit and read any of 110 artists books by international
artists.
Gallery hours: Saturday 10 - 5, Sunday 10 - 4 through April
27th.

Through April 2008 Rhiannon Alpers
Another Room is featuring the work
of Rhiannon Alpers.
A recent transplant to the Bay Area in 2007, Alpers has an
MFA in book arts from Columbia College Chicago, and a BA in
book arts from University of California, Santa Barbara College
of Creative Studies. She is a papermaker, letterpress printer
and a book artist. She also coordinates the Book Users Group
meetings for the San Francisco Center for the Book.
Alpers has taught workshops for the Center for Book and Paper
in Chicago; Santa Reparata in Florence, Italy; Kala Art Institute
in Berkeley; and the San Francisco Center for the Book. She
has apprenticed at Larksparrow Press in Evanston Illinois and
at Turkey Press, in Berkeley. Since moving
to the Bay Area, Alpers has participated in the following shows:
Mutanabbi Street: an Exhibition of Broadsides; The Calendar,
PCBA Member Show; The Hand Bookinders of California 29th Annual
Members Show.
Also featured in the other display case is work by book artists
new to the store, such as Paul Johnson, Peter and Donna Thomas, Indulgence
Press, Cari Ferraro, Alice Simpson, and more from Granary Books.
