After performing thousands of bubble shows for children and families, the Amazing Bubble Man (aka Louis Pearl) sets his sights on creating a show just for adults to debut as Bubbles After Dark. Since everyone loves bubbles, this special evening performance will harness the bubble master’s comedic theatricality with the fabulous accordion diva Jet Black Pearl’s talents. Singing, rapping and beat boxing about slugs in love, criminal gurus and hallucinating butterflies alternating sets with the formation of soap bubbles into new shapes, colors, and textures, provides a rare chance for adults to forget their worldly cares and simply enjoy some remarkable bubble art and bubblicious music. Some may wonder could Nina Hagen and Tom Waits have a secret daughter, born in Caravan Palace, with Bjork as a babysitter?
With more than 50 years of combined stage experience, this eccentric duo makes each show a unique happening. There is no script and loops are layered on the fly. This is truly freeform “play” in the purest sense of the word. While the Amazing Bubble Man has been playing with bubbles and audiences long enough to know better, performing before an audience of grown-ups allows him to remove any filters that family shows require.
Available for the first time, Jet Black Pearl’s latest EP boasts six new songs, varying from very dreamy folk sounds to electro swing party, recorded during her tours and travels in the Netherlands, France and the USA. The EP highlights an eclectic array of musicians that added sousaphone, saxophones, human beat box, kora, and marimba to her accordion. The brilliant sound engineer Oz Fritz (Tom Waits, Primus, Bill Laswell) mixed the songs.
Although most people think bubble shows are for little kids and their families, and that will happen the following day with two all ages shows, every so often the simple becomes sublime, as when Pee Wee Herman made a kids show for adults. Not to be missed.
