Cultural Study and Exchange

By
creating an international network and bringing artists together
through music, RCW hopes to foster cultural exchange and awareness.
RCW has sponsored six successful cultural study and exchange trips
to Cuba and Japan since 1999. In Cuba, approximately 25 people
travelled for two weeks on a cultural exchange visa to study the
folkloric drum, dance and song of the Arara and Yoruban cultures
in Mantanzas and Habana. Studying with the Baro family in Jovellanos
is an historic event. In the "Cuba 2000" trip, it was
the first time the Baro family taught a cultural workshop outside
their family. In 2000, RCW also presented Amilia Pedroso, one
of the greatest singers of Cuban folkloric music.
August 2001 marked RCW's first cultural exchange and study trip
to Sado Island, Japan to study with Kodo, and Hana Yui. Bringing
American drummers to study with the world renown Kodo drummers
was both exciting and educational, a once in a lifetime experience
that was repeated three times! In '03 the Japan tour was dubbed
"KASA/Mix" and more American musicians got to experience
the magic of Sado Island and the talented Kodo drummers. Please
