Featuring David Fullarton, Graham Gillmore ( of Lincart Gallery),
Marion Elliott, Ray Beldner and artists from San Francisco's Catharine
Clark Gallery. All these Bay Area artists use text in their work in
various media; a one word resin plaque,"Quagmire", by Walter
Robinson,
poetry scratched into pigment by Marion Elliott, a collage of
color and strange quotes by David Fullarton.
"The Painted Word" is the
title of author Tom Wolfe's 1971 satire of the New York art critics
of
the 1950's who helped create the vogue for abstract expressionism.
