About American Tribal Style® Belly Dance
American Tribal Style® belly dance (or ATS®) was created by Carolena Nericcio-Bohlman of FatChanceBellyDance® in San Francisco in 1987. This improvisational group style of belly dance is characterized by its uplifted, elegant and strong posture, along with the concept of leader and follower(s) working together, dancing as one unit. With costume & musical influences from North Africa, India and the Middle East, this dance form looks old and sometimes folkloric, but this style is new. Dramatic slow to high energy fast, ATS® has always been a crowd pleaser from small clubs to large stage shows.
