Rogue Rhythms

Latin-American, Caribbean and African Percussion

What would the world of sound be without percussion? With Rogue Rhythms, students will experience thrilling examples of rhythms and beats from different cultures as they discover percussion instruments from around the world.

Each member of the Rogue Rhythms ensemble introduces a different instrument in the incredibly versatile Latin & African percussion families. Students will follow the driving rhythms of the chekere, hear compelling cultural stories told through the surdo and congas, and discover how the Mbira brings melody, rhythm and the science of sound together in the same instrument.

Get ready to dance, clap and sing your way through this extraordinary musical adventure!

About PAL

Rhythmix Cultural Works believes that exposure to the arts can be a transformative experience and a catalyst for cultural celebration. In support of this vision, Rhythmix developed Performance, Art & Learning “PAL” as an assembly-based youth arts education program in collaboration with the Alameda Unified School District. PAL fosters awareness of world cultures, celebrates diversity and empowers underserved youth through exposure to multicultural, educational music and dance performances. Since the program’s inception in 2012, PAL has served over 107,000 Alameda County students.
