Captivating audiences from 3 months to 91 years old, 2+1 is a wonderfully accessible dance theatre piece about the rollercoaster-ride of early parenthood. Becoming a parent is such a profound shift in our identity, lifestyle, routine and perception, a period of such intense highs and lows. Performers Colin Epstein and Tara Pilbrow navigate the fatigue, confusion, and moments of complete hysteria hand in hand. At the back of the space a washing machine spews out an endless torrent of laundry, sometimes the couple fight back…sometimes the washing machine wins.

“A tongue in cheek, humourous look at parenthood” Marie McCluskey, Swindon Dance

“The most effective evocation of collaborative intimacy that I have ever seen” Dave Wybrow, Manager Cockpit Theatre

Audience members: “Wonderful, familiar, gently transfixing”, “beautifully choreographed and performed with consummate skill”, “Moving sensitive and profound. Highly accessible for parents and little ones”

Tara Pilbrow came to Alameda in January 2017 after a long career as a dance performer and maker in the UK, France and Argentina. She has rapidly fallen in love with her new home and is excited to be investing in growing the Alameda dance scene. She founded her company Tara Pilbrow Dance in London in 2011, and is now focusing on recreating company repertory, and creating new work here in the Bay Area. Tara is also the Artistic Director of Animate Dance Festival a one-day event celebrating dance in all its forms which took place for the first time in Alameda Point in October 2018.

Colin Epstein is a dancer and acrobat who calls Oakland home and teaches parkour and acrobatics at Athletic Playground and Kinetic Arts Center. The rest of his time is divided between dancing on the ground & in the air for Bay Area companies including 13th Floor Dance Theater, Lizz Roman & Dancers, Palanza Dance, and Deborah Slater Dance Theater; directing Twisted Oak Dance Theater; and producing a yearly event (Constants & Variables) showcasing the amazing talent in the Bay Area dance and circus communities.
